Step-by-Step Guide

Education in Russia: a step-by-step guide

From submitting your application to arriving in Russia — here's everything you need to know about the complete process.

1

Submit an application

Educational programs start annually in September–October. If you plan to begin your studies this year, please send us an application or write an email to [email protected] by the end of July 2026.

2

Select a suitable educational programme

Start by learning the Russian language. However, if you already speak Russian and hold a corresponding certificate, you may proceed to studying in bachelor's, master's or specialist's degree programmes.

3

Sign a study agreement with the university

A student visa cannot be processed without a contract with the university. Once the university has reviewed your application, you will be sent the contract for review. After you sign the contract, an invoice for tuition fees will be issued to you.

4

Make a payment for your tuition

Russian universities accept payments to their settlement accounts in rubles. You can make the payment yourself or use the assistance of third parties — in the latter case, you must specify that the payment is being made for your studies.

5

Receive an official invitation letter

After receiving the tuition payment, the university submits a request to the authorized bodies of the Russian Federation to issue an invitation for you. The invitation serves as the basis for applying for a student visa. The university may request additional documents.

6

Apply for a student visa

Taking into account the time required to prepare the invitation, you need to schedule an appointment at the Russian consulate or embassy in your country. At the embassy, you will attend an interview and submit a package of documents. After passing, you'll be issued a student visa.

7

Plan your trip and pack your belongings

After receiving your student visa, you may purchase tickets to Russia. It is most convenient to fly to Moscow by plane and then take a train to the city where your university is located.

8

Welcome to Russia!

Our representative will meet you at Moscow airport and then at the train station in your study city. Russia is a very hospitable country, and we will help you see it for yourself!

To enroll in Russian language courses at a Russian university, you must provide the following:

  • Scanned copy of your passport with a notarized translation
  • Educational certificates with a notarized translation
  • An applicant's form

If you plan to continue your studies after completing the courses without returning home, we recommend obtaining an apostille for your educational certificates in advance.
